Handmade Wardrobe....Margot Pyjamas

Pattern: Margot Pyjamas by Tilly Walnes, from her Love at First Stitch Book

After impulse buying a sewing machine at Ikea, I'm now attempting to hand make some wearable clothes. I often find I have an idea of an item of clothing I want to buy but can't quite find the right fit or colour in the shops. I decided to make a start by following the wonderful Love at First Stitch book by Tilly Walnes - the step by step guides are perfect for a beginner like me and the book comes with full size patterns. This is my first item - the Margot Pyjamas.

The step-by-step guide made it feel less daunting and was easy to follow. I didn't make any changes to the pattern - I used the size which fitted best to my hips and waist, but allowing for lots of room as I like my pj's nice a baggy. Making them again, I would adjust the pattern to make the legs slimmer. I'm tempted to make a shorts version for the summer and try adding a lace edging.

I used a pretty blue floral cotton fabric, found in an independent haberdashery shop in Haverfordwest. It wasn't that expensive so I brought 3m - allowing myself some extra fabric in case I went wrong! I used ribbon as the drawstring.

Winter approaches

Winter approaches

As winter approaches it's time for warm cosy jumpers, hot chocolate and hiding from the rain with a good book or film in a cosy corner.

My favourite pins week 1 : the Floral dress

I’m a huge fan of pinterest, so I’ve decided every Sunday I’m going to add my favorite pin or theme of pins for things that have caught my eye, inspired an outfit or craft project.

This week is all about wearing pretty floral dresses but achieving winter warmth! I’ve picked this pin as my favorite as it’s very me! Floral dresses, long cardigan, warm black tights, leather bag and boots are a stable of my wardrobe. I love layering up summery floral dresses to make them nice and cosy for the winter months.

Here’s an assemble of one of my outfits (Warehouse dress and cardigan, Accessorize bracelet, Mulberry bag - okay I don’t actually own the bag but I can in my dreams!)

Look out for more in future weeks….no doubt on my favorite pinning topics of fashion, crafts, jewellery, home décor, travel….

Summer Dresses

It's that time of year...the sun is finally out! Okay it might not stay yet but it's definitely time to think about summer dresses....Here are my favourite spots so far and yes I will resist buying them all!!

The dress for the beach or the park

Simple, light and cool for the summer.
(Don't know the brand but found pic on tumblr)
I have a similar one from Miss Selfridge white cutwork dress

The dress for a wonder around town....

I love the white embroidery stitching
(Photographed & written on this lovely blog by Vanessa Jackson
Possibly from H&M or Zara)

The dress that's slightly quirky....

I love a slightly different dress -
the colour, the pattern or the design (never all at once!!)
From anthropologie (at £128!)

The dress for any occasion....

I'm really enjoying wearing this maxi dress I brought from Mango.
I need it tucked in at the waist to suit my figure (wide hips and small waist)
so this one is a perfect fit and has a splash of summery colours

and now I'm mad about long skirts for the office as well as my never changing
love of floral prints but that's for another time!

Vacances à Paris

I was lucky enough to be treated to a long weekend in Paris last month.
I have a vague memory of a brief morning spent in Paris with my family years ago...at a stroppy teenage age; picky about food (especially hidden gherkins) I didn't particularly enjoy it. I was however intrigued by the Parisian fashion so wore my favourite outfit..a dress my mum had made me from some material I'd handpicked.
So again I find myself packing my favourite clothes into my red leather holdall but this time I thoroughly enjoyed myself (except the hidden gherkins in sandwiches!). Here are a few of the highlights..

Macaroons - Pistachio for Aden, Lemon for me. Simply delicious and the perfect energy boost for sight seeing.
Eiffel Tower - Prettier at night and much more impressive when it pops up between buildings. Look out for the sparkling magical lights.

Les Clos des Gourmets - on our first night we came across this lovely restaurant. We ate a delicious and beautifully presented three course meal (35euros) with the most divine champagne. The meals were slightly variable - my main was a little plain but the desert was simply the best chocolate desert I have ever eaten. Recommend booking. 16, ave Rapp, Champ de Mars, Tour Eiffel.
Versailles - palace was packed full of tourists & student groups so we quickly escaped to the gardens to eat lunch & relax beside the lake. Plenty to do in gardens - row a boat on the lake, cycle around the park, ride pony's or simply do as we did..take a stroll, enjoy the views and the sunshine. Perhaps better visited later in the year as the statues were still covered up & the little garden areas closed off. Be prepared for queueing
The Shakespeare and Company Book Shop - A big rustic house crammed full of old and new books, in French and English. Climb the stairs to find comfy alcoves of seating, a gorgeous old type writer and locals playing chess. 37 Rue Bûcherie, 750045 Paris (Near Saint-Michel - Notre-Dame)
The Louvre - Loved: the statues, the African exhibit, the glass of champagne in the cafe. Disliked: the Mona Lisa..beautiful but small and very crowded. Allow plenty of time.

Buddha Bar - recommended by a local. A huge Buddha dominates the room creating an exotic atmosphere. Worth a visit just for the decor - drink yummy cocktails and people watch upstairs or eat good thai/asian food downstairs. Very busy on on the weekends. 8 Rue Boissy d'Anglas
Boat trip along the Seine - I love a good boat trip and the chance to sit down to sight see after lots of walking around! I wasn't disappointed
Souvenir Shopping - I'm not much of a fan of the conventional souvenirs...the little flashing Eiffel Towers just aren't for me. Instead I brought some lovely botanical prints from the little market stalls along the river. At only 15 euros they were a bargain. For my mothers birthday I went to  Fragonard perfumeur who sell beautiful toiletries in beautiful packaging and the friendly staff were happy to let me practice my French. 15 rue des Francs Bourgeois

And I can't finish without mentioning one of my favourite books which I wished I'd packed with me as I didn't happen upon any clothing gems - Parisian Chic: A Style Guide by Ines de la Fressange. Full of style and beauty tips with recommended places to visit in Paris.

Mother's Day & Vintage Flea Markets

Had a lovely morning wondering around a vintage flea market at Ashton Gate stadium with my mum. I'm getting a taste for vintage markets although I had my reservations on how 'quaint' this one would be at a football ground but I was pleasantly surprised. A mixture of old vintage antiques with a few not so and Mum enjoyed spotting tea sets my grandparents had.

I treated myself to lovely vintage satchel leather bag for the bargain (I think) price of £7...I've had my eye on a new satchel for a while and this fits the bill perfectly. It's a little rough around the edges but after a little clean up it's just how I'd wanted.

A lovely new home for my laptop and notepad...
